Photographers, videographers, and podcasters recording on WashU property and/or at university events and activities must obtain appropriate signed media release forms from staff, faculty, students, and non-WashU participants who are recognizable in the photo, video, or audio recording. Crowd scenes where no single person is featured are exempt.
These rules govern multimedia content intended for use in any university publication or campaign that is for paid marketing and/or commercial in nature.
These rules are not in effect for multimedia content intended for news activities and/or editorial purposes, which are subject to the WashU multimedia policy. However, informing participants of the presence of a recording device and the purpose of the photography or video is recommended.
The following forms have been approved by WashU General Counsel and are available for any member of the WashU community to use in their multimedia projects. Those taking place in clinical settings have additional HIPAA guidance.
