Full-color logo

  • Display only on light backgrounds/products: white, gray, oatmeal.
  • “WashU” must be black.
  • Background must be a solid color. No patterned backgrounds.
  • This guidance also applies to school level logos.

1-color logo

  • Display logo only in white, black, and red. (1-color black and white shown below)
  • Never use logo elements in “reverse.”
  • Display only on backgrounds/products of red, green, white, black, gray, oatmeal.
  • Background must be a solid color. No patterned backgrounds.
  • This guidance also applies to school level logos.

Logo elements

Wordmark

The logo is made up of two elements: the shield and the wordmark. The “WashU” wordmark may not be used by itself.

Use of shield

  • The full-color shield may never be used alone.
  • The one-color shield may be used as an ornamental element by itself, but only if the word “WashU” or the full logo is included on the product in another imprint area.
  • For example: The shield on front of a sweatshirt and the official “WashU” logo on the shoulder or back of the sweatshirt.
  • The protective space around the ornamental shield must be equal to the size of the shield or larger.

Leave protective space around the official WashU logo at least equal to the size of the shield.

  • 2,544 stitch count (full color)
  • 2,570 stitch count (1-color)

Guidance for:

  • Engraving/Debossing/Embossing — Use the official WashU Logo in 1-color.
  • Lapel pins — Rectangle: use full logo. Round: use shield from official WashU logo. 
  • University Seal — The use of the university seal is reserved for the Office of the Chancellor and Commencement.  Use on merchandise will be on an exception basis at the discretion of University Marketing & Communications.
  • Faux Seals — The university does not allow faux seal on merchandise.

Co-branded merchandise

Any co-branded merchandise will be considered on a case-by-case basis. University Marketing & Communications will review requests.
